U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree Visits Georgetown

US Capital Christmas TreeThe U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree will make a stop in Georgetown on Nov. 17 on its way to Washington, D.C., from Carson National Forest in New Mexico. The tree will arrive and be parked on Main Street between Seventh and Eighth streets between 4-5 p.m.

To celebrate, the City is hosting U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree Day in Georgetown on the Square from 2-5 p.m. During the event, visitors will be able to meet Santa Clause and his two reindeer with his antique sleigh, participate in children’s crafts, purchase U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree merchandise and Georgetown collectible ornaments. Guests will be able to take their own photos with reindeer for $10. The event is free to attend.

The 60-foot tree will be making stops for community celebrations throughout its journey from New Mexico to the U.S. Capitol from Nov. 11-25. The journey will culminate with the official tree lighting on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol building in early December.

• 2PM Santa and reindeer will arrive on the Georgetown Square.
The Williamson Museum will be hosting a craft-making event.
• 4PM The U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree arrives.
Georgetown Mayor Dale Ross and Williamson County Judge Bill Gravell welcome the Tree and proclaim November 17 as U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree Day in Georgetown.

Dive into the holidays with Santa at the Georgetown Recreation Center Indoor Pool. Bring the family for a chance to swim with the man of the season. Hot chocolate and candy canes will be provided. All ages are welcome, but children ages 1-6 must be accompanied by a chaperone age 16 and older in the water at all times; children ages 7-11 must be accompanied in the pool area at all times by a chaperone age 16 or older. Lois Perkins Candlelight Services

The Candlelight Services at Lois Perkins Chapel of Southwestern University are a long-standing tradition celebrating the season of Advent. The downtown shops will be open late, so plan to get in some unique holiday shopping. This is a free event. The downtown holiday lights will come on every evening around 5:30 p..m. through December 31.

On December 14, 7:30 – 11 a.m., pancakes, sausage, juice, and coffee will be prepared and served by firefighters and Rotarians at the Georgetown Community Center at 445 E. Morrow Street. Tickets are $6 and children 12 and under are free with adult ticket purchase. Ticket includes a picture with Santa.
