Spring Art Stroll

Mark your calendars for the Georgetown Spring Art Stroll in downtown from 4-8 p.m. April 18. The Art Stroll is an opportunity for patrons to engage in interactive arts experiences including artist demonstrations, performances, live music, and art shopping at Grace Plaza and at arts and culture facilities and arts-based businesses throughout the Downtown Georgetown Cultural District.

Artists participating as booth exhibitors in Grace Plaza include acrylic paintings by Aaron Damon Porter; jewelry by Kathleen Lundy; encaustics by Virginia Headley Maserang, acrylic paintings by Lynn Kessel; and 2D/3D mixed media by Tish Daniel.

2024 Red Poppy Festival

The fun starts blooming on Friday evening when artisans set up their wares, fresh smells waft from food vendors and live music takes center stage.

The festival really blossoms on Saturday when it kicks off with the Poppy Parade and Car Show. Once the engines turn off, the day is yours to make. Kids can get crafts at the Fun Zone and everyone can feast their senses on fine arts, tasty treats and toe-tapping tunes.

The Red Poppy Festival has hosted a who’s who of artists and bands throughout the last few decades and this year promises to be better than ever. With live performances, all three stages will be heating up and turning out the good time vibes.

4th Of July In San Gabriel Park

People looking at fireworks in honor of Independence Day

The annual Sertoma Club Family July 4 Celebration and fireworks display will be held at San Gabriel Park, July 4. The event is sponsored by the Georgetown Sertoma Club with assistance from the City of Georgetown.

Activities begin at 11 a.m. at San Gabriel Park and will include live entertainment starting at noon. The festival also includes arts and crafts vendors, food vendors including a beer and wine vendor, a petting zoo, classic and antique cars, games, and rides for children and adults. The event concludes with a fireworks show at about 9:30 p.m.

Admission to the event is free; however, there are fees for some activities.

“The Sertoma Club of Georgetown and the City of Georgetown invite you to join us in the beautiful San Gabriel Park located on the San Gabriel River,” Sertoma Club President Bill George said. “This year’s 40th celebration sponsored by Sertoma is partnering with FREEDOM FUN to bring you new and exciting experiences in games, a petting farm, train rides, and many activities, plus more and affordable pricing in wrist bands and individual rides. With an increase in the number of food and craft vendors, we have something for everyone. Classic car displays and other, new items to be announced. Our stage will have entertainment after our kids’ parade starting at 11 a.m. Bring your chairs, enjoy the fun, and stay for the fireworks starting at 9:30 p.m.”

Hometown parade

The July 4th Hometown Parade in San Gabriel Park begins at 11 a.m. at the low water crossing near the College Street bridge and ends at the large pavilion. Participants should gather at 10:30 a.m. at the low water crossing. Kids are encouraged to decorate their wagons or bicycles for the parade. Motorized vehicles and pets are not permitted in the parade. The annual parade is sponsored by the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and will feature Miss Georgetown.

The fireworks display begins at about 9:30 p.m. Fireworks will be launched from the McMaster Athletic Fields on North College Street. Fireworks can be viewed from San Gabriel Park, VFW Park, and other areas in Georgetown. The best entrance to San Gabriel Park for the event is via Morrow Street on North Austin Avenue. Please do not bring dogs to the fireworks show.

Parking

There is limited parking in San Gabriel Park. Attendees also are encouraged to park at Georgetown High School and carpool to San Gabriel Park. Limited handicapped parking is available in the designated area on the south side of San Gabriel Park.

Both the McMaster Fields parking lot and the Parks and Recreation Administration parking lot at North College Street and W.L. Walden Drive will be closed on July 4 due to their proximity to the fireworks fall zone.

College Street and McMaster Fields closure

Due to the fireworks fall zone, North College Street will be closed from about 9 to 11 p.m. Tuesday, July 4, between the traffic circle and Holly Street. Parking, standing, or sitting along that segment of North College Street will not be permitted during this time.

The McMaster Athletic Fields will be closed all day July 4.

The Annual Blazin’ Beer Crawl

georgetown beer crawl cheersThe Blazin’ Beer Crawl is a self-paced walking event featuring craft beer tastings inside our Downtown retail stores and restaurants. Ticket holders will receive a map of all of the participating locations and can choose which order to sample and visit merchants. Hot and spicy snacks will be available at various participating merchant locations. Restaurants will have event day specials. Food trucks will be set up for additional food options during the event.

Veterans Day Ceremony

veterans memorial wall in georgetownThe annual Veterans Day Ceremony in Georgetown is held at the Georgetown-Williamson County Veterans Memorial Plaza, 2 Texas Drive. All veterans and their families attending will be recognized, and several veterans will participate in the program.

Parking is available at the Sun City Social Center at 2 Texas Drive and across the street at the Activities Center at 1 Texas Drive. Seven hundred folding chairs will be placed at the memorial for event seating. Guests also may bring a folding chair and sit at the plaza under the trees.

The Sun City Community Association will serve refreshments on the Social Center patio after the ceremony.

The event is free and open to the public. In case of rain, the event will be held in the ballroom at the Social City Social Center, 2 Texas Drive.

Annual Field of Honor

Hosted by THE ROTARY CLUB OF GEORGETOWN, TX FOUNDATION, the Field of Honor® is a dramatic, emotion-filled display of over 1,200+ full-size, 3′ x 5′ US flags, that honors and benefits military (past and present) and first responders. The Rotary Club of Georgetown’s signature event will take your breath away as the flags wave in unison. Each flag is available for purchase and dedication in honor of veterans, active or reserve duty military, first responders, K9 Units, and Equestrian heroes! Flags can also be designated to the POW/MIA section of the field or you can “Adopt a Hero.” This dramatic tribute exemplifies the Rotary motto of “Service Above Self” on the part of our heroes. It is FREE to visit the Field of Honor® that is open to all 24/7 throughout the week of the event.

The Annual Lighting of the Square | Downtown Holiday Lights

The Williamson Museum provides free guided tours of the beautiful historic Williamson County Courthouse. Tours are Fridays beginning at 1:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m.  Plan to arrive at the museum a few minutes early and you may want to call ahead to confirm tours as they are subject to change, 512-943-1670.
