a christmas carolYou don’t want to miss this classic live musical , showing November 24-December 30 at Georgetown’s Palace Theatre! “Ebenezer Scrooge is a prosperous curmudgeon who believes that personal wealth is far more valuable than the happiness and comfort of others. With an infuriated “Bah! Humbug!” Scrooge summates his feelings of Christmas tidings and charitable giving, but he’s forced to face his selfish ways when three ghosts on Christmas Eve lead him through his Past, Present, and Future. Thanks to their guidance, Scrooge recognizes his faults and greets Christmas morning with a cheerful “Happy Christmas” before spending the day reconnecting and sharing love with those who mean the most to him.”

Lois Perkins Candlelight Services

candlelight service

One of Southwestern’s long-standing annual traditions of Candlelight Service to celebrate Advent and the Christmas season. The Candlelight Worship Service is adapted from “An Advent Service of Lessons and Carols” in The United Methodist Church Book of Worship, and based on one developed in 1934 for the chapel of King’s College, Cambridge. The Season of Advent, which begins the Christian year, is the four weeks prior to the celebration of Christmas and marks the season of anticipation and preparation.

A 108-year tradition at Southwestern, Candlelight is one of the highlights of the fall semester. This service of lessons and carols welcomes our community to the chapel for a time of worship and singing.

Southwestern will host two services on December 7, at 6 and 8 p.m. For more information, please go to https://www.southwestern.edu/calendar/all/categories/Open%20to%20the%20Public
