Congress Bridge Bats
Austin is home to the largest urban bat colony in North America. These Mexican free-tailed bats hide out under the Ann W. Richards Congress Bridge, waiting to take flight during the summer months at dusk. For the best seats in the house, go early to the Austin-American Statesmen parking lot and plot a blanket in your chosen spot in the grass. For updates and approximate emergence times, please call Bat Conservation International’s home office number 512-327-9721. Free public parking is available after 6pm. Free parking is available at the Texas Dept. of Transportation parking lot, located at 200 E. Riverside Drive, after 6 pm and on weekends.
