When Elwood P. Dowd starts to introduce his imaginary friend, Harvey, a six-and-a-half-foot rabbit, to guests at a society party, his sister, Veta, has seen as much of his eccentric behavior as she can tolerate. She decides to have him committed to a sanitarium to spare her daughter, Myrtle Mae, and their family from future embarrassment. Problems arise, however, when Veta herself is mistakenly assumed to be on the verge of lunacy when she explains to doctors that years of living with Elwood’s hallucination have caused her to see Harvey also! The doctors commit Veta instead of Elwood, but when the truth comes out, the search is on for Elwood and his invisible companion. When he shows up at the sanitarium looking for his lost friend Harvey, it seems that the mild-mannered Elwood’s delusion has had a strange influence on more than one of the doctors. Only at the end does Veta realize that maybe Harvey isn’t so bad after all.

Iden Payne award winners Joe Penrod, Wendy Zavaleta, and David Sray.

The beautiful, romantic A Little Night Music, based on Ingmar Bergman’s film, deals with the universal subject of love – in all its many wondrous, humorous, and ironic permutations. You’ll find yourself asking: Who’s in love with whom? (You may need a score card!) The play is set in Sweden at the turn of the 20th century. Middle-aged Fredrik Egerman brings his young bride Anne to a play starring his former mistress, Desirée Armfeldt. Soon, Fredrik and Desirée resume their romance, incurring the wrath of her current lover, a pompous Count. The situation culminates in a weekend at a country estate, with Fredrik, Anne, Desirée, and the Count in attendance, as well as Fredrik’s son (who is hopelessly in love with Anne), Desirée’s illegitimate daughter, the Count’s manic-depressive wife, and the Egerman’s lusty maid. And there, under the summer night, things are set right. The most popular song from A Little Night Music is undoubtedly “Send In The Clowns.”

Production dates for A Little Night Music are February 19-21, 26-28 and March 5-7, 12-14. Friday and Saturday shows are at 7:30 p.m.; Sunday shows are at 2:00 p.m. Ticket prices for A Little Night Music are $22 General Admission, $20 Seniors (55+), $12 Students (16-22) and Active Military, and $8 Children (15 and younger).

The Palace seats about 295, with reserved seating paid for in the ticket price. The Palace office in the lobby of the theatre is open Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. (except for some holiday dates). Purchase tickets and select seating on-line at www.thegeorgetownpalace.org or by calling (512) 869-7469 or (512) 869-5081. Visa and Master Card are accepted.

The Palace Theatre is located at 810 South Austin Avenue in Historic Georgetown, just a half-block off the Square.
