The ninth annual Sun City Holiday Home Tour will again feature six professionally decorated homes.  Be inspired as you tour these homes ranging from modern to traditional decor.  These residents’ homes will feature not only the inspired decor from the professional, but also the owner’s furniture and collectables from around the world.  Surely you will leave with ideas for decorating your own home!

The tour will be on Friday, December 4 from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m., Saturday, December 5 from 10 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., and Sunday, December 6 from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.  Tickets are $10 and are available from the Sun City Community Association office, the Georgetown Visitors Center, First Texas Bank in Sun City, a Kiwanis member, or at the homes during the tour.

Art in the Square – formerly known as Art in the Park – is Downtown Georgetown’s newest event!  This up-scale venue features works from more than 175 fine and contemporary artists in a wide range of media including clay, drawing, sculpture, painting, jewelry, fiber, metal, mixed media and more.  Art in the Square will be Saturday, October 17 from 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. and Sunday, October 18 from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.  For more information, please visit the website below.

The Georgetown Convention and Visitors Bureau is calling on Georgetown residents to help make the town red with poppies in April. The goal of the seed planting is to encourage a plentiful springtime crop of Georgetown’s signature flowers to welcome visitors to the Red Poppy Capital of Texas.

Throughout the month of October, poppy seeds will available for free at the Visitor Information Center, located at 101 W. Seventh Street. October is the best time to plant poppy seeds. Instructions are on the seed packets.

Georgetown’s red poppy tradition began when World War I veteran, Henry Purl “Okra” Compton, sent a packet of Flanders Field red poppy seeds to his mother Maggie who lived in Georgetown. She planted the first seeds in the yard of her home on E. Seventh Street and over time, the poppies spread across Old Town.
