Art and music lovers, foodies, and theater fans will have a full menu of activities to sample and enjoy in Georgetown this weekend. October 17 and 18 will feature a top-caliber juried art show on the Square, a food and wine sampling event at the Courthouse, an art auction and dessert event to benefit the Animal Shelter, Latin music at the library, a concert by a world-renowned pianist, art exhibitions in downtown galleries and shops, art banners on the Square, and live theater at the Palace.

Art in the Square, October 17 – 18
This juried art show featuring 150 contemporary and fine artists from across the country will transform the historic Georgetown Square into an outdoor art gallery. The event is co-sponsored by the City of Georgetown and the Georgetown Arts & Culture Board. Works will include clay, drawing, sculpture, painting, jewelry, fiber, metal, mixed-media and more. Hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday. For details, go to www.artinsquare.com.
Taste of Georgetown, October 17
Denim and Diamonds at the Courthouse is the theme for Taste of Georgetown, sponsored by the Downtown Georgetown Association. Sample foods from 12 local restaurants and five Texas wineries in the historic Williamson County Courthouse, located at 710 S. Main Street. Two tasting times are offered from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at the Visitor Information Center and Georgetown Winery. Art for Animals, October 18
Silent and live auctions of artwork, hand-crafted items, and other special items to benefit the Georgetown Animal Shelter, A Chocolate Affair also will feature delicious chocolate desserts and coffees. The event on Sunday is from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Community Center in San Gabriel Park. Tickets are available for $5 at Wonderful Things, Framer’s Gallery, the Visitor Information Center, or at the shelter, located at 110 W.L. Walden Drive. Live Music at the Library, October 18
Latin dance music group Son y No Son will perform at the Georgetown Public Library on Sunday, October 18, from 2 to 4 p.m. Son y No Son’s repertoire includes music from Cuba, Colombia, Mexico, and Brazil. Son y No Son is sure to put a smile on your face and get your feet dancing! The Georgetown Public Library is located one block from the Square at 402 W. Eighth Street.
Jan Jiracek Concert, October 18
Van Cliburn International Piano Competition finalist Jan Jiracek performs in a 4 p.m. concert on Sunday at the Klett Center for the Performing Arts. Sponsored by the Georgetown Symphony Society, the program includes pieces by Beethoven, Chopin, Liszt, and Mussorgsky. Fall Art Hop, October 2 – 29
A juried art show for painters, photographers, mixed-media artists, and printmakers is on display during the month of October in businesses, galleries, and locations in the downtown area. Look for artwork at the Georgetown Public Library, Cianfrani Coffee Company, Dog-Eared Books, and the Framer’s Gallery. Happy Trails Art Banners, October 1 – November 15
The “Happy Trails” art banner project recalls the name of the famous Roy Rogers song as well as Georgetown’s location on the historic Chisholm Trail. Look for 65 art banners on lampposts in the historic downtown featuring original artwork by 55 artists. The project is supported by a grant from the Georgetown Arts and Culture Board and Georgetown Art Works, a local arts nonprofit. Vote on your favorite banners by filling out a ballot at the Georgetown Public Library, Williamson Museum, or the Visitor Information Center.
Man of La Mancha, October 2 – November 1
This classic musical tale of Don Quixote, Sancho, and Dulcinea comes to The Palace Theater in Georgetown, with live performances each weekend in November.
