Featured in This Old House Magazine as one of the Top 12 Places to Buy on Old Home, the Holiday Home Tour December 13 and 14 will show guests just why Georgetown earned that honor.
Restoring an old house gives new meaning to the terms reduce, reuse and recycle! Recently, the United States began closely looking at every aspect of renewable resources and energy. What were only buzz and hype are now very real issues for every American home. Georgetown’s Holiday Home Tour lends new meaning to the spirit of the season where a preserved historic neighborhood and its homes become a focal point for ultimate recycling.
Showcased on this year’s Holiday Home Tour are five distinctly beautiful homes, each with a diverse take on restoration. The Tour makes a marked departure from years past by presenting homes vastly different from each other. Most notable this year is the inclusion of a “new” home, constructed largely from reclaimed materials local to Georgetown. The architect and homeowner will be on hand to discuss the design and construction of this unique approach to green building. Also on the Tour this year is another “work in progress” home that will dispel several myths about living in historic Georgetown.
For profiles of each home and the tour and for more details, see the Georgetown Heritage Society website at georgetownheritagesociety.com.
Tickets are available for $10 at the Georgetown Visitor’s Center (cvb@georgetown.org), Hill Country Bookstore on the Square (hcbookstore@cox-internet.com) and at Grace Heritage Center on the days of the Tour. The Tour runs December 13 and 14 from 12 noon to 5 p.m. and tickets allow admission to all five amazing homes.
